BEYONCÉ Knowles and Kelly Rowland made a powerful appearance at a Kamala Harris rally in Houston, Texas — their hometown.
“Houston, you’ve already had a hand in creating ‘destiny’…let’s do this thing again,” Rowland urged the crowd with a spirited call to action, reminding her hometown of their collective power.
Beyoncé delivered a passionate speech before Harris took the stage, infusing her message with musical metaphors. “It’s time for America to sing a new song,” she declared. “Are y’all ready to add your voice?”
Emphasising her role as a concerned mother, Beyoncé stated, “I’m not here as a celebrity. I’m not here as a politician. I’m here as a mother, a mother who cares about the world our children live in—a world where we have the freedom to control our bodies, a world where we are not divided, our past or present or future.”
After their inspiring speeches, Harris walked onto the stage to the powerful sounds of “Freedom,” the Beyoncé track that has become the anthem of her campaign.
Also present was Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, alongside a performance by Willie Nelson.
Beyoncé had previously shown her support by allowing her song “Freedom” to be used throughout Harris’s campaign. The track, featuring Kendrick Lamar, debuted on her 2016 album Lemonade and has resonated as a soulful anthem for social justice since the murder of George Floyd in 2020.
