IN what has been described as one of the most iconic X Factor duets in history, Alexandra Burke shared the stage with Beyoncé for an unforgettable performance of the superstar's song, "Listen."
The duet, which aired in 2008, has since amassed over two million views on YouTube. This collaboration was facilitated by show creator Simon Cowell, who arranged for Beyoncé to join Alexandra while her competitor, Louis Walsh’s boyband JLS performed with Westlife.
Before their unforgettable performance, the legendary singer offered a candid warning to Alexandra. In a recent interview with Capital XTRA Breakfast hosts Robert Bruce and Shayna Marie, Alexandra reflected on the pressure she felt leading up to the performance. “What’s running through my mind is, ‘How am I going to keep up with this woman? Because we only had one rehearsal, and it was shocking,’” she shared.
Beyoncé, understanding the stakes, offered candid advice: “Don’t sing anymore, because you might lose your voice. I didn’t come here to sing with someone that will lose. I didn’t fly all this way to do that, you’re going to win!”
Alexandra humorously recounted telling Beyoncé, “You’ve won in my heart,” simply for the honor of performing alongside her. In a delightful twist, Alexandra went on to win the season.
This heartfelt exchange was highlighted in a clip shared on Instagram, drawing laughter from fans. Nathan Charles Smith commented, “Brilliant,” while Whitneyveniya added, "Nah. Beyoncé sounding like every African parent!”
