BEYONCÉ has successfully won a lengthy legal battle to secure the trademark for her 12-year-old daughter Blue Ivy's name.

The 43-year-old officially gained the rights to the name after a court ruling last week, which resolved a dispute with a Wisconsin boutique that had held the trademark since September 2009, according to The Trademark Official Gazette.

Beyoncé’s legal fight began in early 2012, shortly after the birth of her daughter. Her company, BGK Trademark Holdings LLC, filed for the trademark with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, but faced opposition from wedding planner Veronica Morales, who had been operating under the name "Blue Ivy Events" for three years prior.

In 2020, a tribunal ruled in Beyoncé’s favour, stating that the names "Blue Ivy" and "Blue Ivy Events" were not sufficiently similar. Despite this victory, Beyoncé’s legal team did not continue pursuing the trademark at that time, leading to the abandonment of the case.

However, in November 2023, Beyoncé refiled for the trademark, but was met with a complication when the Wisconsin boutique still owned the "Blue Ivy" logo.

Jay-Z, her husband and Blue Ivy’s father, had previously explained in 2013 to Vanity Fair that the couple sought the trademark to prevent others from exploiting their daughter's name. "People wanted to make products based on our child's name, and you don't want anybody trying to benefit off your baby’s name," Jay-Z said. "It wasn't for us to do anything; as you see, we haven't done anything."

Blue Ivy holds two Guinness World Records and has made her mark in the entertainment industry, including appearing in a song on the Billboard charts and receiving multiple awards such as a BET Award, Soul Train Music Award, and NAACP Image Award. Additionally, she narrated the New York Times bestseller Hair Love, danced and performed on stages worldwide, and frequently appears with her parents at public events, often drawing massive attention on social media.

Legal documents note that she is "the most famous baby in the world" according to Time Magazine and referred to as the "New Princess of Pop" by Rolling Stone.
