Charity empowering underrepresented groups in motorsports and supported by Lewis Hamilton’s organisation wins prestigious award

A CHARITY who has made it their mission to empower underrepresented groups in motorsports has won a prestigious award for their work in the field.

Driven By Us took home the Charitable, Voluntary & Social Change Award at this year’s Black Talent Award, but despite their tireless work, they admitted “we really didn’t expect this”.

“The list of finalists were phenomenal,” said CEO James Dornor. “The community did this”.

Taking to Instagram shortly after the awards, Dornor wrote: “Against the odds, we have impacted the underserved community and increased accessibility providing a needed space alongside connecting organisations with the diverse and skilled talent that has been nothing short of community-focused.”

Driven By Us supports individuals on both a personal and professional level “within the workplace, as well as the wider motorsport community” by providing networking opportunities, career advice and support on how to develop confidence in a competitive industry.

Additionally, they work with schools in areas with relatively high levels of deprivation and where educational attainment currently falls short against the national average.

They have garnered much support within motorsports, most notably partnering with Lewis Hamilton’s charitable organisation, Mission 44, whose aim, similarly, is to increase diversity in motorsport.

“It’s our community who share our mission to create lasting change in automotive and motorsport industries through STEM/Media Programmes and EDI Education,” Dornor continued.

“We look forward to continuing the important work of breaking barriers and driving positive change, being the change we want to see in others.”
