FOUR years ago today, for the first time in its 21-year history, Loose Women was hosted by an all-Black panel.
The landmark episode, which aired during Black History Month, was fronted by newsreader Charlene White, with singer and actress Brenda Edwards, comedian Judi Love, and former Eternal singer Kéllé Bryan joining in from home.
Viewers praised the history-making panel, with one calling it the best edition of the long-running programme they’d watched “in a while.”
A fan took to X to express their excitement: "Today's #LooseWomen looks very interesting, I'm so happy to see four successful women who are of colour who represent and resonate me as a POC. I couldn't feel more proud and happier than I do this is diversity at its best."
Another viewer added: "Four black females on @loosewomen. 2020 has been good for something! Bravo."
The episode was described as "refreshing and inspiring," earning the team a Daytime Programme Award at the RTS Awards.
One viewer raved, "So refreshing to turn my telly on and see 4 beautiful black women running the show; things have a long way to go but this is a great start, never in my life have I seen this happen on a major network [sic]."
Despite the historical significance, the show tackled topics like parents smacking their children and delayed grief, with Baroness Doreen Lawrence joining the discussion. One fan applauded the approach: "My favourite thing about today's @loosewomen line up? They've not spoken about it or made the chosen line up a discussion point."
After filming wrapped, ITV News presenter White shared her emotional response on social media, saying, "Thank you guys for all the tweets, messages, calls, and DMs. Yep we made history today. And when the cameras stopped rolling, I burst into tears. I’m very very proud of us @kellebryan @brenda_edwards @1Judilove," she tweeted.
In addition, Edwards expressed her joy, writing, "Loved being with these ladies today making history @loosewomen with @CharleneWhite @1Judilove @kellebryan."
Bryan also responded to fans, stating it had been an "emotional" moment.
