KARIS Musongole, a 10-year-old actress from Manchester, has described her experience playing the young Elphaba in the highly anticipated Wicked film as “just amazing.”
Karis portrays the green-skinned version of the iconic character, joining lead actress Cynthia Erivo and co-star Ariana Grande in the film.
For Karis, seeing herself on the big screen is a dream come true. “Seeing myself on screen means a lot to me because I’m not in films very often, because obviously I’ve just started in this career,” she told BBC News. “It’s amazing. The film itself is incredible.”
The path to landing the role was just as thrilling as the experience itself. Karis recalled that after her audition, her agent called at midnight with the good news that she had been cast. “But I was asleep and my mum couldn’t wake me up to tell me,” she laughed.
Karis’ excitement only grew as she joined her co-stars for the film’s European premiere. "Attending the film’s premiere was amazing," she said. "It was incredible."
Wicked, the long-awaited prequel to The Wizard of Oz, is based on the hit West End and Broadway musical.
The film tells the origin story of Elphaba and Glinda, two young witches who will eventually become the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the North.
