Updated: Oct 12

THIS summer, British rapper Stormzy's collaboration with Chase & Status, titled "Backbone," achieved significant commercial success by reaching the number one spot on the UK charts for two consecutive weeks.

In a recent video released by Stormzy's team, the rapper's heartfelt reaction to this milestone was captured, showcasing his genuine surprise and joy. As he learns the news of his song's success, his disbelief is palpable. "What? In the UK? Are you joking?" he exclaims, his eyes wide with excitement. "That's crazy!"

Stormzy, one of the UK's leading artists, has achieved significant acclaim and commercial success throughout his career. He made history as the first British rapper to headline Glastonbury in 2019, showcasing his impact on the music scene.

His debut album, "Gang Signs & Prayer", debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and received critical acclaim, earning him multiple awards, including the Brit Award for Best British Album. In 2019, his single "Vossi Bop" reached number one on the UK Singles Chart, solidifying his place in the industry.

This initiative not only alleviates financial barriers for underrepresented groups but also aims to increase diversity within higher education institutions. The scholarship has garnered attention for its commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders and thinkers from the Black community.

Earlier this year, Stormzy and Adidas teamed up to launch a new multipurpose space in Croydon providing opportunities for young Londoners across football, music and gaming. The space aims to create a community hub for socialising and hopes to bring young people through the doors providing “development opportunities” in both careers and education.
